Lower East Side churches and settlement houses band together
to form the Lower Eastside Information and Service Center for
Narcotic Addiction, Inc. – today known as the
Lower Eastside Service Center.

The
Lower Eastside Service Center is profoundly grateful to
Herb
Barish. After more than
50
years of dedicated service to this agency and the people it
serves, Herb recently retired as
LESC's
President & CEO.
...
Herb
will be sorely missed. His contribution to LESC is without
parallel.
LESC, which started in a storefront
on
the lower
east
side of Manhattan, has blossomed into a leading nonprofit
provider
of substance abuse services
in the greater New York Area.
We
thank Herb for his profound desire to service our community.
...
A
staunch supporter of LESC's clients, who has devoted many years
of
invaluable
service as Vice-President of Human Resources,
Valerie
Walters has graciously accepted the position of
President
& CEO.
...
We
Congratulate Valerie and wish her well.
