Ongoing Support for Your Journey Through HIV and Hepatitis C Education and Testing

Access to HIV education, testing, referrals, and counseling can profoundly impact your life. Our early intervention program for LESC clients is dedicated to enhancing your understanding of your HIV and Hepatitis risk and ensuring you receive the treatment you deserve. This program strives to help you adhere to medication to improve your overall health.

LESC HIV Early Intervention and Education in New York City

Supported by a grant from OASAS, our Early Intervention Program is integral to our residential and outpatient services. It boasts a dedicated team:

What to Expect From Our HIV and Hepatitis C Early Intervention Program

At LESC, we aim to make your time in treatment as seamless as possible, offering easy access to potentially life-saving education and services. Beyond HIV and Hepatitis testing and counseling, we promote harm reduction sessions, equipping you with vital techniques to reduce harmful behaviors. These include health interventions such as the ARTAS (anti-retroviral treatment access to services) protocols.

By enhancing your self-confidence, our program empowers you to reduce high-risk behaviors and access necessary treatments. You'll also be able to engage in enlightening group sessions covering topics like stress management, meditation, nutrition, and seeking safety.

Through our holistic health services, we go beyond just primary addiction treatment and focus on helping you heal in a way that supports a resilient recovery.

FAQs

Both are blood-borne viruses and are most often transmitted by sharing needles or other equipment to inject drugs. It can also be transmitted during sex.

On-site at 46 East Broadway.

The test takes 20 minutes.

We will refer you to a community provider that is equipped to treat these viruses.

Left untreated, chronic hepatitis C can lead to more complicated illnesses such as liver cirrhosis and liver cancer.

Most people with hepatitis C do not experience any symptoms. If you do have symptoms, it may look like a common illness like the flu.

Yes, Early Intervention Services (EIS) will continue to support you during the process.

We have a Peer Engagement Specialist whose role is to support you before, after, and sometimes during the appointments. The EIS Peer Engagement Specialist can escort you.

The team provides HIV and hep C education on transmission, risk reduction, how the viruses affect the body, and treatment options. Knowing your status is the first step!

YES! Hep C is fully curable.

Treatment varies depending on your specific case. The medical professionals will answer these questions better.

Any LESC client in our program can get tested.

Admission Criteria

To be eligible, you should currently be using or have a history of dependency on substances. If you've also experienced mild mental health issues alongside a substance use disorder, we offer psychiatric services. Additionally, if you're seeking support on behalf of a family member or loved one impacted by addiction, we’re here to help.
